Gayle Thompson
I discovered polymer clay in 2000 shortly after I made the move from
Virginia to Florida.  After living in Richmond, VA for all my life, the
company I had worked for for over 23 years was sold and I was losing my
job!  Luckily, there was a position opening up  in the Orlando, FL area that
the manager wanted me to fill so - after much thought and prayer - I made
the move to Florida.  My three children are grown and, even though I
hated the thought of leaving them, they encouraged me to make this
move.  I figured that if I lived in Orlando, at least I would not have to worry
about them visiting!

Since I was alone, that left me much time to fill.  Since I am not an avid fan
of network television, I started surfing the cable channels and found the
Carol Duval Show!  Since I have always been involved in crafts of one
type or another,  this became my favorite show!  I recorded the segments
to watch during the evenings.  One evening I saw Donna Kato doing one
of her demos, it caught my attention, and the rest is history!  Donna has
become "MY HERO"!

I started out by finding as many tutorials as I could - both on TV and in
books!  I must own just about every book written about polymer clay!  I
worked alone until I saw an ad for a new polymer clay 'guild' starting up in
the area.  I had never been a member of a guild before so this intrigued
me.  I went to a meeting and found that this was only the 2nd meeting they
had ever had!  The first meeting was only 2 people (our co-founders) so I
guess you could say I am a Charter Member of the Orlando Area Polymer
Clay Guild.  I have attended several great workshops (including 2 Donna
Kato workshops!) and am continually learning new techniques and styles.
I am a member of the National Polymer Clay Guild and often attend
meetings of the North Central Florida Polymer Clay Guild in Ocala, FL.  I
also participate in several Yahoo Groups dedicated to the art of polymer
clay.

This website is the beginning of what I hope to be a new career as an
artist and teacher as well as a retailer of polymer clay products and
accessories.  I would love to be a small part of educating the world about
the validity of polymer clay as an artistic medium.  There is so much talent
in the polymer clay world that needs to be acknowledged as the art is
really is!

Please watch my site as it expands to include what I hope will be helpful
information to other aspiring polymer clay artists.
